We continue our look at wider issues in sport by welcoming Tony Pucci (from Pollyanna Cowgirl Records Podcast) to discuss fandom and sportsmanship. There is also some contributations from Lindsey (lindseykal from the forums and Simply Read movie reviews).

We tackle a wide range of topics that come under the general umbrella of fandom and sportsmanship.

After the credits Jonathan and Shane reveal how they welcome guests onto the podcast, the origins of the U.S national anthem and a little discussion about stadiums.

We take a departure from our usual modus operandi to bring you a serious of special episodes on wider sporting issues.

First we look at the perception and depiction of women in the areas of sport. It ended up being such a rich issue for discussion that we ended up having two separate shows on the topic. We bring back previous guests Laura & Jenni as they explain the problems they see for women in the sporting arena, as well as their own difficulties that they've faced with prejudice for being a sports fan.

We induct our first team into our Hall of Fame and what better place to start than with the most successful and famous Rugby League team of all time, Wigan. From 1986 to 1995, they dominated the sport, winning numerous trophies, including the challenge cup 8 times in a row. Here we look at some of their key players, matches and discuss the general nature of spending money in order to win things.

We begin by offering our best to the Aston Villa captain, Stilian Petrov, who has been recently diagnosed with leukaemia. As his Bulgarian teammate, Martin Petrov stated earlier this week, stay strong Stan.

We've done Top 5 episodes on sporting shocks and upsets in the past. So it's only fair to bring the final member of this realm of sport into the fray. We look at the times when teams or individuals have won when they couldn't possibly win; it's the sporting comeback.

Jonathan talks about the opening test match of the 1994 Ashes, where Shaun Edwards was sent off and Jonathan Davies went on to score one of the most famous tries in Ashes histoy as 12 men GB beat the Aussies 8-4.

Shane talks about Wilt Chamberlian's remarkable achievement of scoring 100 points in one game for Philadelphia against New York in 1962. A feat that has never been matched since.

This is an episode that combines many great sporting tropes. A bitter rivalry, America's national sport, and a great sporting comeback. All with a place in the World Series at stake. As well as a few audio difficulties, we're joined by Mike and Art from the Masters of None podcast.

Either side of talking about the epic series, we speak about the history of the Boston/New York rivalry, annoying fans, and how the proliferation of money has distored baseball.

Our post-credits outtakes features Mike's "Al Pacino" impression, and while he and Art were relatively well behaved, it seems that one of the regular hosts was unable to follow suit.

The latest entry into our own Hall of Fame is the American Football Running Back Barry Sanders. A player who had a great record breaking career in both college football, with Oklahoma State and in the NFL with the Detroit Lions.

We start this episode with a saddening but necessary riposte to those who seem to think it's acceptable to sneer at the world of sport. This will be our only response on the issue so I suggest you listen carefully.

Oh yeah, and we do a show as well. Great sport is often elevated by its setting. And we look at the arenas that show sport in its best light.

After taking a break from our regular shows to deliever the review of the year shows, we return with a half and half episode.

Shane talks about Chris Boardman's Gold Medal in 1992 at the Barcalona Olympics and its impact on British Cycling, the rewards of which we are reaping now. He would go on to be the only British cyclist worth talking about until the emergence of David Millar in the late 1990s.

Jonathan talks about Super Bowl 3 and Joe Namath's promise to win the game despite playing for the huge underdogs New York Jets. This was the first time an AFL team beat the NFL.

We end our sporting review of 2011 with a returning Emma Hyam, and a look at the last 12 months in Motorsport, Gymnastics, Snooker, Track & Field and Boxing. We end with our awards on the year's sporting heroes (domestic & foreign), and our respective sporting villains, which contains strong language and topics of a controversial nature. Listener discretion is advised.
